Larry L. Murray has served as president of The Capitol Group for more than 20 years. He has gained an outstanding reputation as a problem solver on local, state and federal issues and is regularly asked to testify before legislative and regulatory bodies on a wide variety of issues.
Mr. Murray served as Louisiana’s Commissioner of Financial Institutions for 8 years, under three governors, having been appointed to the post at age 34 by The Honorable Charles E. “Buddy” Roemer. Prior to assuming the commissioner’s post, Murray served as Director of Government Relations for the Louisiana Bankers Association.
Mr. Murray began his legislative involvement in 1975 at age 17 with his appointment as a page with the Louisiana House of Representatives and he continued working with the House during every Regular Session of the Legislature through 1983 in a variety of roles including Counsel to the Committee on Commerce, which has jurisdiction over a wide variety of business and commercial matters.
Mr. Murray is a graduate of the Tulane University School of Business (1979), and Tulane Law School (1983). While at Tulane, he was named to the Dean’s List six times and was elected into Phi Eta Sigma, Omicron Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Phi honorary societies. He was a member of the Tulane Law School National Trial Team in 1982-83.
Since graduating from Tulane, he has served as President of the Tulane Alumni Association Board of Directors, the Provost’s Council, the President’s Council, the Parent’s Council, as President of the Tulane Associates Board of Directors.
Mr. Murray has also been involved with a myriad of philanthropic organizations, including service as Chairman of the Board Development Committee of the Louisiana Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, as secretary of the Board of Directors of Louisiana Consumer Credit Counseling Services, and as Deputy Campaign Chair of the Baton Rouge Community Fund for the Arts. More recently, he served as a board member of former First Lady Donna Edwards’ “Louisiana First Foundation” and is currently on the board of the Old State Capitol Foundation.
